This
is an outer casing manufactured from a single wire of either Round, Square or
rectangular flat section carbon steel spring wire. The wire can either
be a natural finish (bright) or galvanized. Carbon steel spring
wire is used in the manufacture of outer casing usually having a tensile range
of 100-120 tons tensile. Single wire casings
are most suited for applications where the compressive load required is
relatively low. Any excess in loads can cause the casing to compress in length
and thus reducing the efficiency of the application. Such applications for this
type of casing would suit the following:
When
a single wire casing is routed through several bends, allowance has to made for
an extension that occurs due to the bends (see sheet 3 for details). When the
inner cable of an assembly is loaded with a routing of several bends, there will
be a tendency for the outer casing to attempt to naturally straighten back out.
This is due to the fact that the individual coils “open up” on the outside
of each bend and this can attribute to the assembly feeling “spongy” when
operated. This will result in excessive free travel and thus reduce the
applications efficiency. Single wire casings
are best suited to pull applications. They
can be used for light duty push-pull applications, providing both ends of the
outer casing are anchored, so the outer acts as a guide only, for the inner
member. Light accelerator cables Bonnet release cables Choke cables Pull to stop cables Motorcycle cables Cycle cables Medium duty clutch cables (Automotive) Welding machine feed liners
